Mum breaks down in tears as lounge where she almost died gets makeover on The Great Home Transformation

IN a new episode of The Great Home Transformation, Emma Willis and Nick Grimshaw transformed a family home in Swansea.

The mother was moved to tears when she discovered her lounge, a room where she nearly died, got a makeover in the Channel 4 show.

Lombe was left in tears in The Great Home Transformation

Her lounge had some painful reminders

The first lockdown was a harrowing experience for Lombe as she battled Covid with fears that she’d die on her lounge sofa.

The Swansea-based full-time nurse talked about her distressing experience in new decorating show The Great Home Transformation, in an instalment set to air this evening on Channel 4.

Since then, Lombe was constantly reminded of her breathing difficulties every time she saw her sofa.

Thankfully for her, her husband Gregory was more than ready to rid her of any painful memories with a full makeover of the family’s lounge.

Emma and Nick teamed up with award-winning interior designer Alex Dauley and craftsman Tim Hitchens to spice up the Mwanza family home.

The pair of hosts then revealed the changed room and Lombe was clearly over the moon.

The transformation left her in floods of happy tears.

“I keep sitting in the same seat where I nearly passed in this living room and the memories just come flooding back. It’s a new page and a new day for this family”, she said.

Lombe explained she contracted Covid during the first few weeks of the first lockdown, in April, 2020.

“It was the darkest moment. I nearly lost my wife”, Gregory remembered.

Lombe painfully added: “I was watching telly and suddenly I couldn’t breathe. He held me in his arms and I could feel myself going slowly. I knew that this is it, I’m not going to come out of this.”

Family members admitted the living room had become a traumatic reminder of Lombe’s experience with Covid.

However, the lounge wasn’t the only room in need of a big change.

During the works, Emma explained the traditional three-bedroom Victorian semi was a “tight squeeze” since Gregory and Lombe’s two adult children had settled back home.

According to their daughter, the “chaos” which ensued often led to arguments within the home.

The design team hatched a plan and installed specialist motion cameras to track the family.

This helped them create heat maps that could help them to identify which space was used and for how long.

Alex then used the information to create a tailored plan for how to renovate the home.

The Great Home Transformation airs tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
