TOWIE’s Pete Wicks has opened up about life with his dogs, confessing they’ve helped him through dark times.
The 33-year-old is the proud owner of two rescue French bulldogs – Eric and Peggy – and he insists life wouldn’t be the same without them.
Speaking exclusively to The Celeb Report, Pete said: “Peggy and Eric are my two best friends – I honestly don’t know what I would do without them.
“They have saved me from a few dark moments in my life, which I won’t be able to repay them for.
“I live on my own, so they really are great company.”
Pete thinks people have bad misconceptions when it comes to rescuing a dog rather than buying from a breeder.
He said: “There is a misconception that rescue pets mean an animal is either dangerous, badly behaved, or has something wrong with it, but that really isn’t the case.
“Both Peggy and Eric are pure-breed French Bulldogs – and you’ll find a lot of pedigree animals in rescue centres particularly following the pandemic, as Brits rushed to buy lockdown puppies, but realised they couldn’t look after them when things started to open up again.”
Now RSPCA ambassador Pete has teamed up with Co-op for the launch of their latest insurance and he can’t stress enough the importance of ensuring your pets are covered.
“Pet insurance is the most important thing we can get for our pets, as we need to make sure that like ourselves, they are healthy and happy; and no one wants to be slapped with high vet costs following an unexpected visit to the vet,” Pete said.
He also thinks that, with some insurance companies offering discounts for animals from registered charities or rescue centres, there’s no excuse.
Pete added: “I have been very lucky with Peggy and Eric so far – touch wood.
“Typically people think that rescue pets are more expensive to cover than animals from a breeder, so it is great that the new offering from Co-op provides the highest level of cover for pets adopted from a recognised animal charity or rescue centre, as well as an introductory discount.”
When he’s not hanging out with Peggy and Eric, Pete is one of the stars of The Only Way is Essex – and he confessed to being disappointed when filming for the upcoming series was pushed back due to Covid restrictions.
He said: “But it has been nice to focus on myself and think about the things I want to do next. I’ve recently bought a house.
“So the delay to filming has allowed me to put some time and effort into renovating and making it the man cave I really want it to be. I’ve also been able to spend some more time with friends and family.”
