Kate shared a group photo of her with her fellow colleagues sitting on the famous red sofa.

The photo showed a beaming Kate surrounded by presenters Naga, Charlie Stayt, 60, and Mike Bushell, 57.

Kate wrote: “Saying goodbye to this brilliant team this week. BBC Breakfast thanks for an incredible 4.5 years – I’ll miss you!”

She added: “Looking forward to new challenges at Morning Ireland (and finally moving back to Ireland after more than a decade away eeeks)”.

Co-star Naga was quick to comment, writing: “You will be greatly missed. One more to go…”

Teasing that they would be seeing each other the following day, Kate replied: “Thanks Naga. Feels very real now! See you in the morning (I’m bringing treats)”.

Fellow presenter Jon Kay, 53, tweeted: “We’ll miss you right back! You’ve been brilliant on Breakfast, Kate. Thank you – and all the best at RTE.”

Whilst BBC weather presenter Matt Taylor commented: “Aw Kate – wish I’d been there to see you off. You’ve been a joy, even when you were chopping my time. Good luck!”

Former BBC reporter, who moved to Channel 5 last year, also shared his best wishes, writing: “All the best Kate. Where are you off to?”

He later added: “Oooh… I’ve just seen MORNING IRELAND! Great stuff”.

Kate responded by saying: “Thanks Dan. Finally making my way back home!”
