FANS of Neighbours have been whipped into a frenzy as a huge US star has joined the show for it’s highly anticipated revival.
Huge Hollywood names including the likes of Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce had their break on Ramsay Street.
Mischa Barton will join the cast of Neighbours in a new guest role
The new series of the popular Australian soap has entered production
But it seems the latest US name to join the roster of actors on the Australian serial drama is Mischa Barton.
The star is also known for her parts in huge films such as Notting Hill, The Sixth Sense and her breakout role as Marissa Cooper on The OC.
But the 37-year-old actress is excited to return to Australia as she prepares for a new chapter in her career.
She explained: “I’m excited to be part of this iconic show’s next chapter, and I am really looking forward to being back in Australia, a place I know and love!
“I think the character of Reece is going to be a great role for me to explore and play with.”
Meanwhile show producer Jason Herbison said he is delighted Mischa will play a role in the revived soap, especially as they are looking to branch out to an American audience.
He explained: “With Neighbours launching on Amazon Freevee in North America, we are beyond excited to have an actor of Mischa’s calibre join us for the beginning of this exciting new chapter.
“Mischa’s character is dynamic and unpredictable and will have an instant presence on Ramsay Street.
“Our loyal viewers are going to love her, locally and abroad.”
This comes as the long-running Australian soap started production on the new series, nearly a year after it was axed by Channel 5.
It was previously announced that Amazon Freevee had struck a deal with the show’s production Freemantle to revive the show.
And now some of the soap’s biggest stars have reunited to film new episodes, with more drama promised.
Iconic actors such as Ryan Maloney, Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburn, Rebekah Elmaloglou and Stefan Dennis will all reprise their roles.
And, after trepidation from fans, bosses have confirmed Lucinda Cowden is also back as the quirky Melanie Pearson.
Mischa is best known for her breakout role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C.
