NEWS that long-running Aussie soap Neighbours is facing the axe has left viewers shocked. But spare a thought for its cast.
Stars including April Rose Pengilly, who plays Chloe Brennan, were spotted in tears outside the Nunawading Studios in Melbourne following a crisis meeting about the show’s future.
The actress appeared bleary-eyed following the news she could be out of a job.
Co-star Jemma Donovan, the daughter of Neighbours legend Jason, and another actress, Freya Van Dyke, also looked anguished.
More than 25,000 people have signed a petition urging Channel 5, which largely funds the production, to save the soap.
Cast stalwart Jackie Woodburne, who has played Susan Kennedy since 1994, said on a local news channel: “(There is) a lot of information to try and process. I still feel a bit shocked and a bit overwhelmed.
“We’re all very emotional about it.”
