THE first trailer for the upcoming series The Sandman has just dropped – and it’s scared Netflix fans out of their whits.
The fantasy drama, which began production back in 2020, will see Tom Sturridge play Morpheus – the king of dreams and ruler of the Dreaming.
The Sandman follows Morpheus across hundreds of years as he’s captured by an occult group and imprisoned for decades before managing to escape and rebuild his dream kingdom.
The story starts when a dark occult society attempt to summon Death, only to summon Dream, his younger brother, instead.
If the teaser is anything to go by, the adaptation looks to be intensely thrilling – and it’s certainly left its mark with Netflix fans.
Taking to Twitter, one person penned: “You wouldn’t believe the noises that I just made after watching the trailer for The Sandman.”

Echoing their comments, someone else said: “I’ve watched the trailer to The Sandman like ten times in a row. Terrifying stuff.”
While a third remarked: “I’ve been filled with trepidation about it being translated to the screen, but the goosebumps I got during this trailer suggest it’s going to be all right.”
The new trailer highlights much more of the show’s large ensemble, including Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death and Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine.
Additionally, Netflix announced that Mark Hamill will voice the character of Merv Pumpkinhead.
The cast also includes Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Niamh Walsh, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Kyo Ra, Stephen Fry, Razane Jammal and Patton Oswalt.
Netflix describes The Sandman as “a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven”.
The streaming platform won rights to the show in 2019.
The Sandman is arriving on Netflix on Friday, August 5.
