Bridgerton has been renewed for a second season by Netflix

Now, the streaming service has confirmed it will return for a second season, with Lady Whistledown being the one to reveal: “The ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honour to impart to you: Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season.

“I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion.”

While series one focused on Daphne Bridgerton’s on-off romance with Duke Simon Basset, season two will shift its focus to her brother, Lord Anthony.

Lady Whistledown aka Netflix added in the statement released to RadioTimes.com: “This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season.

However, Lord Anthony Bridgerton will dominate the season two storyline

“I will have my pen to report on any and all of his romantic activities.

“However, gentle reader, before you set the comments section alight with requests for more sordid details, know that I am disinclined to report on the particulars at this time. Patience, after all, is a virtue.”

The series is based on Julia Quinn’s novels and production on season two will start in Spring.

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen previously hinted there could be up to eight seasons after it’s record-breaking debut on Netflix.

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen previously said season two would ‘dig into Anthony’s love story’

He told Collider: “This being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings. For each character, for sure.

“I would love that [eight season]. In success, I would love that.”

He added: “I think that we’re along for the ride of Daphne and Simon’s love story this first season.

“And, I think we’ve done some work in Season 1 to set up other characters. We really dig into Anthony’s love story.”

Bridgerton is available on Netflix.
