Last year, Netflix viewers worldwide collectively watched content equivalent to 21 million years. The David and Victoria Beckham documentary alone garnered an impressive 208.5 million hours of viewing time globally. In the UK, the four-part series on the Beckhams attracted 3.8 million views in its launch week, making it the most-watched show on Netflix in Britain since Harry & Meghan in 2022.

New data reveals that Netflix's 16.7 million subscribers in the UK spent an average of just over two hours per day on the platform. This mirrors the amount of time the average adult in the UK spends watching television each day, according to a recent ONS study, suggesting that some households are exclusively tuning in to Netflix.

Top genres and shows on Netflix

Among Netflix's 269.6 million global subscribers, thrillers and dramas have overtaken romcoms in popularity. The top spot for viewing hours went to the fantasy drama series "The Witcher" with 373 million hours, followed by the French thriller "Lupin" at 273 million hours and the drama miniseries "All The Light We Cannot See" at 129 million hours. Notably, the action-comedy series "Obliterated" surpassed popular shows like "Black Mirror" and "Bridgerton" in viewing hours.

In terms of individual show performances, Meghan Markle's appearance on "Suits" garnered 247 million hours of viewing compared to "The Crown" which amassed 220 million hours. The reality show "Squid Game: The Challenge" led the game show category with 270 million hours watched.

On the kids' front, Peppa Pig faced tough competition from new American shows on Cocomelon, pushing the beloved pig down the rankings.
