New Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa Gets Scolded by Show Bosses for Swearing in Time Lord Costume

A Foul-Mouthed Moment

New Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa received a stern talking to from show bosses after he was caught swearing while wearing his Time Lord costume. The actor, who made his debut as The Doctor in the latest 60th anniversary special, got a ticking off from show boss Russell T Davies, who reminded him that there is a time and place for that kind of language.

A Lesson Learned

Ncuti Gatwa admitted that he had never gotten in trouble for anything before, except for this incident. He was called into Russell's office and given a warning. Russell made it clear that while Ncuti can do as he pleases outside of the costume, swearing is strictly off-limits while in character. Ncuti, who had previously worked on the racy show Sex Education, quickly understood the need to adapt to the family-friendly nature of Doctor Who.

A Shift in Roles

Having spent four years on Sex Education, Ncuti Gatwa had become accustomed to the show's explicit content and language. However, he acknowledged that his role as The Doctor comes with the responsibility of being a PG role model and leading a family show. He emphasized that he is on a constant journey of learning what it means to be in a more family-friendly role.

What's Next for Ncuti Gatwa?

Viewers can catch Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor in the upcoming Christmas Day special. He will be joined by his new companion, Ruby Sunday, played by former Coronation Street star Millie Gibson.
