Nine huge Coronation Street spoilers for this week as Summer Spellman falls into a coma

SUMMER Spellman’s fate is on the line this week as her struggle with disordered eating takes over her life.

The Coronation Street teen slips into a diabetic coma. Get the lowdown on all of this week’s drama.

Summer’s life hangs in balance

1. Summer slips into a coma…

Summer’s (portrayed by Harriet Bibby) eating disorder gets out of hand once again this week after she was left to explain herself to Amy Barlow about her struggle.

Coming up, Amy (Elle Mulvaney) tackles her friend in Victoria gardens but a pale Summer loses her temper and orders her to back off.

Meanwhile, Jacob Hay (Jack James Ryan) takes advantage of Evelyn Plummer over-ordering alcopops and is planning on selling them in the gardens for a profit to pay the rent.

Simon Barlow reports Jacob to the police and, as they arrive at Victoria gardens, the criminal escapes, leaving the final two boxes of alcopops on the bench.

This leads to a terrible misunderstanding involving Summer.

The teen is found slumped on the bench by officers, next to the boxes, and take her down to the station after assuming she’s drunk.

Amy and Aadi Alahan later call at the station and seek help from Craig Tinker, reminding him of her diabetes diagnosis.

Police constable Craig rushes to the cells where he finds Summer in a diabetic coma.

Fearing the worst, as a diabetic coma can be fatal if left untreated, Craig shouts for someone to call an ambulance.

A diabetic coma can be triggered by a poorly managed diabetes as well as skipping meals, drinking alcohol and insulin delivery problems – which would fit Summer’s routine with her eating disorder.

Summer meets someone new

2. …And makes a new friend

Word of Summer’s eating disorder gets to Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

Summer’s guardian summons both Todd and Paul to the café and asks them to look out for her.

The teen is upset to find out they have all joined forces and is even more troubled when Aadi quizzes her about a food basket she has bought for the foodbank.

She realises he is also part of Billy’s plan as Todd asked him to keep an eye on her.

Todd later feels guilty when Billy reveals she was telling the truth all along but a shocking discovery is made and they can no longer ignore the fact Summer desperately needs help.

In later scenes, Billy confirms that he’s arranged for Summer to attend a diabetes support group and her revision can wait.

While she reluctantly agrees to go along, Summer is pleased when she meets a fellow diabetic named Aaron, who gives her his number.

Could this new friend be of help?

This is despite Abi Webster (Sally Carman) desperately trying to clean up her act to prove she can be a fit mother.

He first meets up with Ben and instructs him to find out everything he can about Abi but Toyah isn’t impressed.

Yet when she hears Abi and her own solicitor Elliot discussing ways to scupper Imran’s chances of custody, Toyah changes her mind and tells Imran she will fully support him.

Abi, on the other hand, is trying to build a bridge after weeks of tension building up between the trio.

While in the neonatal unit, she tells both Toyah and Imran she’d like them all to be a part of Alfie’s life.

But Imran doesn’t want to give up on his underhanded ways.

Ben calls at the solicitor’s and, having failed to find any dirt worth using against Abi, suggests that he could set her up for a fall.

Imran refuses… but asks Ben to keep on digging for something to use against the mechanic.

Later, he meets up with Ben and tells him he will be needing evidence that Abi is back on the drugs before the custody hearing.

But what is he planning?
