Kelsey Grammer has praised his co-star’s acting abilities

Kelsey, 68, has raved about Nicholas’ acting and comedic abilities after joining the much-loved show, which initially ran from 1993 to 2004.

The award-winning actor, 61, is set to play the mischievous and boozy university professor Alan Cornwall in the sitcom’s sequel.

“Nicholas Lyndhurst is co-lead in it. Nick and I fell in love when we were doing Man of La Mancha together,” he told the Sunday Times.

” I warned them in America. I said: “Wait until this guy gets here. You’ll be doing a scene with him and suddenly you realise he’s just run off with it.

“He’s an extraordinary actor, a dear friend. And I am so pleased.”

He added: “I accuse him of being a bit of a sandbagger because you don’t see him coming and all of a sudden he’s getting all the laughs.

“Nicholas has been hired to play a university professor called Alan in the reboot, who is pals with Frasier.”

This is Nicholas’ first role since son Archie died aged 19 in September 2020 of a brain haemorrhage.

The CBBC actor was discovered at his family home in Fulham, West London.

He had briefly starred alongside his dad in sitcom So Awkward.

Nicholas said of himself and Archie’s mum after his death: “Lucy and I are utterly grief stricken.”

And Only Fools co-star and close friend Sir David Jason was comforting him in the weeks after the tragic incident.

He played the younger half brother of Del Boy – for seven series and 15 specials in Only Fools and Horses.

The logline for the Frasier sequel series states: “Frasier is off to a different city with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.

“Frasier has re-entered the building!”

Larger than life Alan is said to have an intellect to match Frasier’s but rarely uses it, Variety reports.

Frasier is expected to help him find “some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life” through thoughtful guidance.

Nicholas is best known for his other role in sitcom Goodnight Sweetheart.

Frasier is making a comeback to the small screen and is considered one of the most successful sitcoms of all time.

The original version of the show aired on NBC for 11 seasons between 1993 to 2004, and is now set return on Paramount +.

But fans will be shocked to hear that apart from one star, the original cast are not returning.

That’s right, David Hyde Pierce (Dr. Niles Crane), Jane Leeves (Daphne) and Peri Gilpin (Roz) are not appearing on the reboot.

However, fans are still holding onto hope that the three stars could make cameo appearances at some point.

Sadly actor John Mahoney who played Frasier’s father also won’t be back, as he died in 2018.
