OUR Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen was forced to ‘act fast’ as disaster struck in Ravenseat.
The Yorkshire Shepherdess took to social media to share a video of her with one of her sheep, who had come down with conjunctivitis.
As she held the animal on the ground, Amanda told her 190,000 followers, she said: “Well, the wind is blowing again. And because I’m feeding the sheep hay, it’s irritating their eyes.
“So I’m having to catch a few, they’ve got conjunctivitis.”
She then explained what she was doing, saying: “It’s just temporary, all I have to do is treat them with a spray.
“Now it does sting them when I spray them but usually one spray and they’re cured. So it’s worthwhile doing.”
While it’s worthwhile, the sheep don’t like the treatment, with Amanda writing next to another video: “The North wind doth blow, and we shall have snow….& also sore eyes.
“The sheep are very unwilling patients but if not treated they can lose their sight completely.
“Better to act fast when treatable than wait until it becomes more serious.”
Amanda’s problem with the sheep comes days after she had to deal with a sad stillbirth on the farm.
One of her cows, Lily, lost her calf, so Amanda tried to get her to accept another one – Stormy as her own.
It involved covering Stormy in the stillborn calf’s skin to convince the mother she was nurturing her own offspring.
Our Yorkshire Farm airs on Channel 5.
