OUR Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen thought her son was dead after a ‘traumatic’ premature home birth.
The Yorkshire shepherdess has nine children with her husband Clive, and has delivered her babies in many different scenarios.
But with her second child, son Reuben, she went into labour at 31 weeks while at home.
Speaking to Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her Spinning Plates podcast, Amanda said: “I had him at home and I thought that he was dead.
“I was at home and it was so quick and there was blood and a baby, but there was no sound whatsoever. “
In the unearthed chat, which took place in London last year, Amanda recalled how the local river had flooded, meaning the ambulance could not across to her home at Ravenseat to help her and her newborn.
She said: “I remember I was in a daze and it felt like it hadn’t happened to me and I was looking across at Reuben who was three pounds.”
Amanda and Reuben eventually made the two-hour journey to the nearest hospital but things took a further turn once there.
Amanda told Sophie: “They [medics] had an oxygen mask and I remember they were trying to scrunch it [to make it fit] and then one of his lungs collapsed.
“I got a phone call in the middle of the night to say one of his lungs had collapsed.
“Then I got another phone call to say his other one had collapsed and it’s horrible when you look back at it. But somehow you kind of put it aside don’t you?”
Despite Reuben’s traumatic arrival, he ended up being OK and Amanda wasn’t put off having seven more children with husband Clive, who all appear on the Channel 5 show.
