'Completely pointless' Golden Buzzer under fire
Viewers of Britain's Got Talent have expressed their frustration with a key element of the show, the Golden Buzzer, calling it 'completely pointless' and suggesting it should be axed.
What's causing the uproar?
The popular ITV series is currently in its 17th season, with Ant and Dec back as hosts and all four judges from the previous season returning to the panel.
However, discontent has grown among fans, particularly on platforms like Reddit, where one viewer criticized the increasing number of Golden Buzzers being awarded, claiming it diminishes the specialness of the accolade.
The controversy surrounding the Golden Buzzer
Introduced in season eight, the Golden Buzzer traditionally granted acts an automatic spot in the live show rounds, with one buzzer each for the four judges and one shared by Ant and Dec.
But in recent seasons, the number of Golden Buzzers has increased, with nine being handed out in season 17 alone.
Unexpected Golden Buzzer moment
The final Golden Buzzer of the season was awarded in a unique way to a double-dutch group from Japan called Haribow, who impressed both the audience and judges with their performance.
In a surprise twist, Simon Cowell's son and Amanda Holden's daughter were invited to press the Golden Buzzer, with Simon declaring it a decision on behalf of the audience.
What's next for BGT?
As the show continues to evolve, fans are left wondering whether changes will be made to address the concerns raised about the Golden Buzzer feature.
Britain's Got Talent airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
