And he can’t help but have a thought for his late daughter Grace
Jessie Elland‘s on-screen alter ego is left to her own devices next week as she adapts to motherhood following the birth of her son Reuben.
However, Mackenzie Boyd (played by Lawrence Robb) is pained as he watches her struggle with their lovechild and some shopping, which prompts him to lend her a helping hand.
Later, Mack awkwardly enquires about Reuben and he’s buoyed when Chloe asks if he’d like to join them for a walk.
He then gets a shock when Chloe breaks the news she’s planning on taking Reuben back to Scotland and his heart breaks as he says farewell to his son.
Sadly, Chloe’s plans are turned on their head the following day when Reuben starts running a temperature and Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), who is concerned about his symptoms, suggests they take him straight to hospital.
Chloe’s world falls apart when she’s told Reuben could be suffering from bacterial meningitis.
The news spreads across the eponymous village, leaving Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and his former wife Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) reeling in shock.
Both rocked, they even share a moment – but could it bring them closer together?
This remains to be seen but, in the meantime, Paddy is clearly finding the news hard to hear.
In later scenes, Paddy is left alone, struggling with his grief as he pays a visit to his late daughter Grace’s tree.
Regular viewers of the Yorkshire-based drama will remember that Chas Dingle fell pregnant in 2018 after forgetting her contraceptive injection.
While she initially thought of having an abortion, her and Paddy eventually agreed to go through with the pregnancy.
Sadly, Chas’ unborn daughter was diagnosed with Bilateral Renal Agenesis, meaning both her kidneys and bladder failed to develop.
Baby Grace was eventually born but died 29 minutes after Chas gave birth to her.
How will Paddy cope?
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
