Paddy McGuinness Thanks Fans After Top Gear is Rested by BBC

Hit motoring show put on hold indefinitely following host Freddie Flintoff's accident

Paddy McGuinness, one of the presenters of popular motoring show Top Gear, has expressed his gratitude to fans after the BBC announced that the show will be "rested" for the foreseeable future. The decision comes after co-host Freddie Flintoff suffered a serious accident while filming in December 2022, resulting in facial injuries and broken ribs. McGuinness, who joined the show in 2019, posted a heartfelt message on social media, thanking fans for their support over the years.

McGuinness bid farewell to the show with an emotional message and a photo of himself alongside Flintoff and fellow host Chris Harris. In his caption, he wrote, "We were always going to be b******s but we were your b******s. Thanks for all the love over the years folks, it was very much appreciated." Fans were quick to react to the message, expressing their sadness and hoping for a return of the popular trio.

Insiders at Top Gear revealed that production staff have been instructed to focus on other projects. A show source stated that the decision to rest the show was made in light of Freddie's accident, as there was a feeling that continuing to produce dangerous material would be in bad taste. The BBC issued a statement saying that they remain committed to Freddie, Chris Harris, and Paddy McGuinness, and are excited about new projects being developed with each of them.

Top Gear, which first aired in 1977, has had a long and successful run, with Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond becoming fan favorites before moving on to host their own show on Amazon Prime. Despite the disappointment for fans, the BBC believes that resting the show is the right decision at this time.
