Millions of viewers watched Paula and pal Gary Lyness’ act Strictly Wheels in 2012.

She previously told the Daily Star how the superbug MRSA left her with a damaged pelvis, lower spine, hips and femurs.

She was infected in hospital after suffering from pneumonia in 1995.

She said: “It was 17 years ago when I got MRSA. I was so ill I can’t remember a lot about it.

“It should have killed me because I had septicaemia. I’m lucky to be alive.”

It is not known what caused the dancer’s shock death.

Strictly Wheels posted on Facebook: “We are devastated to announce the sudden passing of our co-founder Paula.

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this extremely sad time.

“Paula’s legacy will always live in our memories from her utter joy of dance.”

They shared a video tribute to Paul, featuring images of her dancing joyfully, as well as her favourite animals.

Another pal, Pawel Karpinski, wrote: “I still can’t believe it! No words can express how much we will miss you. Thank you for all the wonderful moments we spent together all over the world. Rest in peace Paul.”

Elien En Greet Bervoets added: “We were devastated yesterday hearing the news of your sudden passing, and to be honest we still cannot believe it.

“We’ve had great moments together, all over the world, and we can’t believe that won’t happen again.

“But we’ll keep these memories forever in our heart and everywhere we dance I know you will be dancing with us. And of course we’ll drink an extra tequila for you.

“We will always remember your great personality and that huge smile on your face.”

Former social worker Paula and Gary performed in front of the BGT judges to Alicia Keys’ hit Empire State Of Mind.

The pair took up dancing in 2010 and went on to regularly compete across Europe.
