PETER Andre’s wife Emily MacDonagh has hit out at people who moaned about Helen George’s baby bump showing on Call The Midwife.
Helen was pregnant with her child, Lark, while filming series 11 and was shocked to see some viewers criticising her for still filming.
Emily, who is an NHS doctor, was quick to show her support, insisting it is very common to work right up to giving birth these days so women can have more maternity leave once the baby is born.
Writing in her OK! Magazine column, the mum-of-two said: “To expect an actress not to work while pregnant is ridiculous and a very old-fashioned view.
“Pregnancy isn’t an illness and if a woman wants to work while expecting then it’s completely up to her.”
Helen, 37, welcomed her second child with partner and co-star Jack Ashton in November last year.
Last month she hit out at the trolls as the series aired, tweeting: “I’ve seen too many ridiculous comments about my pregnancy whilst filming @CallTheMidwife1 (also thank you for the lovely comments!)
“Women get pregnant, our bodies change. But we have the right to work if we choose to do so. How about just supporting it, and don’t question it?”
One of the tweets she was referring to read: “It’s very unprofessional in my opinion, it’s not as if it’s filmed all year round. It’s a short window.
“She should quit if she wants to get pregnant during filming. It ruins continuity and the aesthetics of the show.”
