Phil Tufnell finished in fourth place

The two shared a few cross words in camp over how Phil seemed to be dodging trials.

In an exclusive chat, Paul told The Celeb Report: “There was a little rumble with me and Phil. But he was a great humour and great life force in the camp.

“He said to me, ‘I want you to meet my wife Paul’ and I said I’d love to meet your wife.

“And at that point, he pulled his pants down and showed me his boxer shorts, which had pictures of his wife on.

“So I met the duchess in the jungle clearing!”

Phil has been married to his third wife Dawn Brown since 2005, and he lovingly refers to her as ‘the duchess’.

He came under fire during his time on the pre recorded version of the ITV show for not being a team player.

Paul added: “I know Phil is a professional sportsman and I know he always wants to win.

“He said himself he dodged a few trials and sort of did lie low at times, and and tried very much not to do them and coasted through underneath the radar.

“And yes he did all those things.

“But he was a great humour and great life force in the camp.”

Phil took on Jordan Banjo, Fatima Whitbread and Myleene Klass in the grand finale of I’m A Celebrity…South Africa and ended in fourth place.

Speaking to The Celeb Report after leaving camp, Phil said: “What an amazing journey!

“It was fabulous, it really was. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much. And I don’t just mean giggle, I mean complete belly laugh.

“Everyone in there was wonderful. Great senses of humour. Everyone made you feel so welcome.

“We had a wonderful time we really did. Through all the grisly, nastiness – fish eyes, snakes around my neck, locked in a coffin.

“Through all that, I met so many lovely people with such warm hearts and open books. We had lovely chats. We had such fun honestly.”

Just two of the stars left standing will face a savage eating trial to determine who the first I’m A Celebrity Legend is.

Ant and Dec explain that they will be asked to state the number of each item they think they can eat in five minutes.

The celeb that picks the highest number must then try to eat that many in the time given. If they succeed, they win a point. Fail and their opponent gets a point.

If they both pick the same number, it’s a straight race.

It’s best of nine dishes, with a menu including fermented eggs and mice tails.

Tune in at 9pm for the 90-minute I’m A celebrity…South Africa final on ITV1 and ITVX
