Holly and Phil take the summer off and have holidayed together in the past

This means that if bosses decide not to extend or renew his agreement, then Phillip’s farewell show would be in July when he and Holly Willoughby go on their annual Summer break.

The duo regularly take around six weeks off during the sunny months, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary fronting the bulk of the summer shows.

A revolving door of other co-hosts usually fill in when Alison and Dermot are not doing the holiday shows, including Rochelle Humes and Josie Gibson.

The Mail reports: “Schofield’s contract is up for renewal in September but because he takes the summer holidays off, his final episode would be in July if ITV were to axe him.”

The Celeb Report has reached out to reps for Phillip and for ITV for comment.

Phil is also said to be terrified his job is in jeopardy amid reports This Morning boss Martin Frizell is said to be “sick of clearing up Schofield’s mess”.

The publication also claims that, despite once being willing to “take the bullets fired at Schofield,” Phillip is said to have lost the support of the TV editor.

While another TV source sarcastically joked of Phillip behind-the-scenes of the show: “It couldn’t happen to a nicer man.”

On Thursday, Phillip made an extraordinary last-ditch attempt to save his This Morning partnership with Holly.

He said in the statement given to The Celeb Report: “As I have said before, Holly is my rock.

“We’re the best of friends — as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone.

“Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us.”

Phil’s statement yesterday also addressed the sentencing of his brother next week, and added: “My family went through a real ordeal.

“Holly’s support throughout meant the world to me, as did the support of my bosses at ITV, my editor Martin Frizell and the whole This Morning family, including our amazing viewers.”

Following the statement, a show source said: “This is desperate stuff from Phil. He knows the relationship has been strained.”
