Piers Morgan loses £15k in ‘humiliating’ Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? defeat – but generously gives charity the cash

PIERS Morgan lost £15,000 in “a humiliating” defeat on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? – but generously promised to give his charity the cash out of his own pocket.

The Good Morning Britain presenter tonight appeared on the celebrity special of the ITV show with his rival Jeremy Clarkson – who famously got into a punch-up at the 2004 Press Awards.

But their reunion didn’t last long as Piers went crashing out of the quiz show after incorrectly guessing the answer to a question about Formula 1.

“You’ve humiliated yourself,” said smug Jeremy.

“And you’ve cost yourself £15,000.

“But actually very nobly, credit where credit is due, you’re going to make up the difference.

“I’m trying to think of a positive…

“You did make it to £4,000 all on your own, then everybody else helped you the rest of the way.

“You were brave to come on and I was brave to have you.”

Piers came unstuck when he had run out of lifelines after his Phone a Friend and GMB co-star Susanna Reid couldn’t help him answer the question.

“Why on earth would I know the answer to that?”, she said.

But competitive Piers bravely went on to play for his charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which supports children and young people who have lost a parent who served in the British Armed Force.

“I feel like I should go for it and if I get it wrong,” he said.

“I will make up the difference. The charity will get the money, no matter what happens, whether it’s from you, the show or me.

“The charity is not going to lose. I just lose what’s left of my reputation. I’m going to guess.”

Piers guessed Jenson Button was the world champion racing driver who hasn’t been a teammate of Lew Hamilton in Formula 1.

But it turned out to be Kimi Raikkonen.
