Piers Morgan mocks rival Dan Walker as BBC Breakfast host announces Strictly appearance

PIERS Morgan has mocked his BBC Breakfast rival Dan Walker after it was revealed he’ll be taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The 44-year-old star’s appearance was confirmed during today’s instalment of the morning show – and Piers was among the first to react.

The pair are embroiled in a long-running feud triggered by competition over viewing figures when Piers hosted ITV’s breakfast show rival Good Morning Britain.

This morning, Strictly’s Twitter page shared Dan’s official video as they wrote: “Dan Walker? More like Dan Waltzer.

“We cannot wait to see @mrdanwalker swap @BBCBreakfast for the #Strictly ballroom!”

Piers, 56, retweeted the post and gleefully added: “My Christmas just came early…”

Dan is yet to respond to the remark, and has previously insisted that their rivalry is just friendly banter – and he has missed it since Piers quit GMB in March.

He said last month: “I sometimes miss the back and forth – we had a little ding dong about Emma Radecanu on social media.

“Him just pontificating about how she should have acted and what was going on in her head, so I just asked him what he would have felt if she’d stormed off in a huff.

“I thought it was healthy for both programmes. I never shied away from a bit of competition and it’s good, it keeps you on your toes as well.

“I’m sure we’ll see him back on a screen sometime soon though. So I don’t miss it too much.”

And proving the feud was all in good jest, the two men posed for a selfie as they enjoyed a round of golf together back in June.

Dan surprised his BBC Breakfast co-star Louise Minchin live on the show today when he announced he’d signed up to Strictly.

Louise had no idea that her pal was about to appear via video link, exclaiming that she had “nothing in the running order” about a second Strictly announcement.

The show had already confirmed Corrie’s Katie McGlynn as the seventh star to sign up.

Not fancying his odds, Dan said during his surprise appearance: “I’ll be honest with you, I’m not making any room on any shelves in my house for the Glitterball.”

Strictly will return to our screens later this year.
