Piers Morgan reveals yesterday was GMB’s most watched show in HISTORY as he celebrates with throwback selfie

PIERS Morgan has revealed yesterday was Good Morning Britain’s most watched show in history.

The 55-year-old celebrated the momentous occasion with a throwback selfie.

Grinning from ear to ear, the GMB cast were all gathered together before the pandemic enforced social distancing on set.

The ratings came as Piers praised The Celeb Report’s story about vowing to beat his BBC Breakfast rivals for the first time in 30 years.

Piers said today: “Yesterday’s @gmb was the highest-rated in our history.

“Big historic moment for our show. I couldn’t be prouder of ⁦‪the entire @GMB‬⁩ team, on & off camera, than I am today.”

He says the key to GMB’s success is ‘we can’t be ignored’

He added: “As @GMB hit a record ratings high of 28% audience share, we were up 170k viewers & 6 share pts year-on-year.

“And @BBCBreakfast was down 166k viewers & 5 share pts. This piece in @TheSun was perfectly timed.

“We’re taking them down, one viewer at a time.”

“The more that people attack us, and try to silence us, for holding this Govt to proper account, the more viewers tune in.”

The 55-year-old joined GMB six years ago

Since joining the magazine show six years ago – following a brief, stand-in stint which saw him put on over 30,000 viewers in a week – Piers has helped transform the once ailing programme.

Now hosting alongside Susanna Reid, Good Morning Britain’s ratings are at an all-time high with the show’s audience share doubling – from 14 to 28% – since the former Sun man joined in 2015.

If the trend continues – and the pair remain the voice of the pandemic, continually holding politicians to account – they could soon overhaul red sofa rivals, Dan Walker and Louise Minchin.

Piers told The Celeb Report: “We have captured the zeitgeist and mood of the country a lot better than BBC Breakfast.

BBC Breakfast is slipping down the ratings

“I think it’s very likely we will overtake them in the ratings by the end of the year which will be an extraordinary achievement.

“You can see that there’s real movement now.

“They’re not moving, and we’re moving relentlessly upwards.”
