Pilgrimage line-up: Which celebrities are taking part in the BBC2 show?

SEVEN celebrity pilgrims will connect with their spiritual sides this week as Pilgrimage returns for another season of serenity.

Over two weeks, the pilgrims will follow in the footsteps of the sixth century Irish monk, Saint Columba.



Pilgrimage will air on Friday April 8, 2022 at 9pm

TV personality Nick is an agnostic who was raised with Catholic roots.

An agonistic is a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God.

This defers from the term atheist which can be used to describe a person who disbelieves in the existence of God or gods.

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen

Laurence is an English interior designer and TV personality.

He identifies as a non-conforming pagan which derives from the term Paganism.

Paganism is a term first used in the fourth century by early Christians for people who practiced polytheism or ethnic religions other than Judaism.

Scarlett Moffatt 



Scarlett Moffatt

Scarlett is also a TV personality who rose to fame after appearing on Channel 4’s Gogglebox.

She also won I’m a Celebrity back in December 2016, with comedian and presenter Joel Dommett finishing runner up.

Scarlett identifies as a Christian which is the world’s largest faith based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

Monty Panesar 



Monty Panesar

Monty is a cricketer who made his Test cricket debut back in 2006 against India in Nagpur and One Day International debut for England in 2007.

He is a practising Sikh, a term used to describe an individual who practices Sikhism.

Sikhism is a religion and philosophy founded in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent in the late 15th century.

Louisa Clein



Louisa Clein

Louisa is best known for appearing in Emmerdale as Maya Stepney.

Judaism is the world’s oldest monotheistic religion, dating back almost 4000 years.

The Jewish people serve God via study, prayer observance of the commandments laid out in the Torah. 

Shazia Mirza



Shazia Mirza

Shazia is a comedian, actress, and writer best known for her stand up comedy The Kardashians Made Me Do It and her articles in The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph.

She is a Muslim which is a term used to describe an individual who practices the ways of Islam.

Islam is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion centered on the Quran.

It is the world’s second-largest religion which was promulgated by the Prophet Muhammad in Arabia in the seventh century.

Will John Bayley MBE



Will Bayley MBE

Will is a British professional Paralympic table tennis player, ranked world number 1.

The BBC Two programme guide described Will as a lapsed Christian.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of “lapsed” in relation to “lapsed Catholic” is said to mean one who is “no longer believing or following the teachings of a religion”.
