Popular show dubbed ‘the new Bridgerton’ axed after just one series – leaving fans gutted

A HUGE show once earmarked to be the ‘next Bridgerton’ has been cruelly axed, leaving fans devastated.

Vampire Academy will be coming to an end after just one season.

Streaming service Peacock has decided to ditch the show three months on from the first season finale despite it once looking like becoming the next big thing.

The show’s creator, Julie Plec, previously built up the hype around the programme by teasing that it was a concoction of both The Hunger Games and Bridgerton.

One of the show’s leading stars, Jonetta Kaiser, has spoken out after the cancellation admitting that it has created a ‘scary’ experience for actors.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, she wrote: “So Vampire Academy has been cancelled..

“The thing is, if you’re an actor, you know that although this is such an exciting time to be part of the industry because of all the countless streaming services aka opportunities, it’s also scary because most shows now get the boot after just one season.

“This can be a tough industry to be part of but we all do it because we love it.”

The actress further admitted she hoped it was not completely the end for the show suggesting there is potential for the show to be picked up elsewhere for another go around.

She added: “Here’s to hoping it’s not totally the end but even if it is I’m grateful to have had the life changing opportunity to play Sonya Karp and gain the support of so many kind fans all over the world.”

The series is based on a number of novels by Rochelle Mead and is the second time it has been adapted for screen after a 2014 film of the same name was produced.

Former Tracy Beaker actress Mia McKenna-Bruce held a starring role in the new rebooted Peacock series which received generally positive reviews before it was dumped by the streamer.

Peacock appear to have followed suit on its rival Netflix who have also recently axed a whole host of shows.

Neil Patrick Harris saw his romantic comedy Uncoupled dumped from the platform after just one series.

Animations including Dead End: Paranormal Park and Inside Job also got thrown out by Netflix leaving fans creating petitions in order for it to return.
