A POPULAR Sky crime thriller has been axed after just one series – leaving its fans gutted.
The broadcaster has culled its newest show A Town Called Malice despite hopes for a second series.
Sky has axed one of its newest shows
A Town Called Malice will not be returning for a second series
Set in Spain in the 80s, the show followed one family who are gangsters from South London.
The crime thriller saw the clan spot an opportunity to reclaim their former glory on the Costa del Sol.
Deadline reports producers were preparing to shoot the second instalment.
However, Sky bosses are said to have notified them last week that it wouldn’t be coming back.
The news has taken show bosses by surprise as the show’s debut was backed by a large marketing campaign by the media organisation.
A spokesperson for Sky said: “A Town Called Malice is a riotous, neon-soaked love letter to the 80s and we are enormously proud of the series.
“Though we won’t be returning to the Costa del Crime, we would like to thank Nick Love, the cast, and the team at Vertigo Films for their hard work and creative vision.”
The news comes following historical drama series Britannia being dropped by Sky.
It means that fans have been left on a cliffhanger ending.
Despite building a loyal fanbase it seems as though that wasn’t enough to keep the show going.
The show featured The Walking Dead star David Morrissey in the leading role as General Aulus.
His character was a power obsessed military leader who was at the heart of the Roman invasion of Britannia.
The series first aired in January 2018 on Sky Atlantic before later airing on Amazon Prime in the US.
