Star-Studded Production
Following the triumph of their Lord of The Rings adaptation, Prime Video is gearing up to introduce their latest fantasy adventure series. The streaming giant has secured the rights to bring the popular book series Rise of the Empress to life, with involvement from two notable Oscar nominees.
Legendary Cast and Crew
The Rise of the Empress series will be an adaptation of Julie C. Dao’s book series, with Hollywood icon Viola Davis' production company JuVee and Forest Whitaker's Significant Productions on board to produce. Joining them is Gemma Chan, known for her role in Crazy Rich Asians, who is set to be the executive producer. Co-showrunners Crystal Liu and James Wong, recognized for their work on American Horror Story, will also be part of the production team.
A Fantastical Plot
Rise of the Empress follows the story of Xifeng, a peasant girl destined to become empress in a Fantastical Ancient Asian Empire on the brink of destruction. As intrigue and rivalry threaten the empire, chaos ensues when Xifeng is unexpectedly thrown into a romantic competition by a vengeful sorceress. The series promises a captivating tale of love, power, and the ultimate quest for salvation.

Fans can look forward to eight episodes of Rise of the Empress, set to premiere on Prime Video in 240 countries. Showrunner Crystal Liu expressed her excitement about bringing Julie C. Dao’s extraordinary books to life, alongside the talented production team and Amazon as the platform for this epic journey.
