What is the Professor T plot?

The new outing of Professor T is based on the hit Belgian series of the same name.

Set in and around the glorious backdrop of Cambridge University.

Ben Miller stars as Jasper Tempest, a university professor who has OCD but also a gift for crime-solving.

The official synopsis for the series reads: “In the opening episode, our protagonist finds himself unwillingly caught up acting as an advisor to the police; his interest in crime is purely academic.

“Diana Tyson (Elizabeth Kate Back) was violently attacked on the university campus where Professor T has tenure.

“DI Lisa Donckers (Emma Naomi) suspects that the assault is very similar to one that occurred years beforehand, and, having been a previous student of Professor T’s, she thinks he can help.

“Although a valuable contributor to the police force, people that don’t know Jasper very well, struggle with his behaviour.

“Professor T’s relationship with the world often leads him to daydreams and fantasies about the people around him, and the viewer is privy to these wonderful and quirky sequences.”

Filming took place in Belgium and Cambridge

Show star Miller said about the new series: “Professor T has it all: intriguing murders, dreaming spires, and a cast of unforgettable characters, each with their own fascinating secrets.

The trailer showcases the beautiful English scenery – and we’re sure the new series will have even more to offer.

What happened last week (spoiler)

The first episode opens with Jasper Tempest arriving to teach his class in forensic criminology at Cambridge.

A former student, Lisa Donckers, who is now a detective, gets in touch with Professor T while investigating the rape of a young woman – Diana.

She suspects the case involves a serial rapist and asks Professor T to help unlock the woman’s memories.

Although Diana agrees to work with Professor T, she leaves after saying she’s not ready.

Professor T is brought in to the police station to help the investigation and gives a lecture on the typical profile of sex offenders.

The cops go through their suspects and Professor T starts to dig into the possible culprits.

He identifies a possible lead – Dennis Banks who served time in prison and now cleans the college.

Later that night a student named Milly is attacked and falls into a coma after fleeing and falling down a staircase.

Police suggest the two rapes might be linked.

Banks is arrested and has Diana’s necklace, which he claims to have found while cleaning – but his wife swears he was sleeping at home during the attack.

At the end of the episode, he moves into his old home, where, as a child, he found someone hanging from a noose.
