Leon Harrop as Ralph Wilson
Actor Leon Harrop reprises his role as Ralph in the new BBC One spin-off
Leon Harrop is a British TV actor with Down Syndrome from the town of Royton in Greater Manchester.
His first TV acting role was in a 2009 episode of the BBC drama The Street.
You’ll recognise Harrop from The A Word, but he’s also appeared in Brassic and Casualty.
Sarah Gordy as Katie Wilson
Actress Sarah Gordy returns to play Katie
Sarah Gordy, MBE is a British actress who is best known for her role as Katie Thorne in The A Word.
She also had roles as Orlando Quine in Strike: The Silkworm, Lady Pamela Holland in the BBC TV series of Upstairs Downstairs, and Lucy Craddle in The Long Call.
In 2018 she became the first woman with Down syndrome to be made an MBE and the first person with Down syndrome to receive an honorary degree from a UK university.
Nigel Betts as Steve
Nigel Betts plays Steve, Katie’s dad
Nigel Betts is an English actor, who from 2003 to 2007 appeared on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale as Eddie Hope.
He also portrayed Tony in the BBC Two sitcom Boy Meets Girl and had a recurring role as Mr Armitage in the eighth series of Doctor Who.
Betts has also appeared in several other British television series such as Downton Abbey, Doctors, EastEnders, Holby City, Coronation Street, The Bill, Ridley Road, and Sharpe.
Pooky Quesnel as Louise Wilson
Pooky Quesnel reprising her role from The A Word as Ralph’s mother.
Quesnel has previously starred in W1A, Top Boy, Doctor Who, Class, Accused, and of course Waterloo Road.
In 2016 she provided the voice of Yuria of Londor in the video game Dark Souls III.

Rounding off the cast includes:
- Sherry Baines – known for Coronation Street plays Katie’s mum Clare.
- Matt Greenwood – known for Waterloo Road plays Katie’s friend Tom.
When is Ralph and Katie on BBC?
Ralph & Katie starts on Wednesday, October 5 on BBC1 at 9 pm.
The second episode follows the next Wednesday at the later time of 9:30 pm.
Ralph & Katie has six episodes in the spin-off, each episode will be 30 minutes long.
The series will also be available as a box-set on BBC iPlayer.
