MARY Goskirk realised she had been scammed by her partner Faye Helders earlier this year.
The villain makes a return to Emmerdale next week, blackmailing Mary with an intimate photo.
Mary was heartbroken when Faye turned out to be a scammer
She’s embroiled in another one of Faye’s schemes next week
And their encounter takes a dark turn
After tiptoeing out of the closet as a lesbian, Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) was hopeful to find love in the arms of Faye (Jane Gurnett).
But in a heartbreaking twist that left ITV viewers feeling terrible for Mary, Faye showed her true colours and revealed she’d been scamming her other half all along.
Faye fled the Dales with money Mary had helped her raise for what she thought was a women’s shelter – but she is eventually caught up by the authorities.
Like any other criminal, Faye denies all claims against her but Mary is determined to watch her get comeuppance and gives a witness statement that could seal the schemer’s fate.
Coming up next week, however, Mary receives a message from an unknown number asking to meet.
She’s thrown to see Faye looking dishevelled and, determined to remain steely in the face of her tormentor, Mary can’t help but feel shocked to discover that her ex-lover has been sleeping in her car.
Faye takes things up a notch and tells Mary she loves her, begging her for a fresh start.
But a wise Mary doesn’t believe her lies and the conversation takes a turn when Faye attempts to blackmail her.
In possession of a private photo, Faye demands that Mary either change her witness statement or she’ll send a non-consensual nude photo of her to all her contacts.
The following day, things escalate further when Faye enters Smithy and reminds Mary that the clock’s ticking for her to withdraw her statement before she sends out the picture.
Later on, Mary’s daughter Rhona (Zoe Henry) is in disbelief when she returns to Smithy and finds Faye smug and unruffled, telling Mary that they can meet tomorrow to confirm that she’s withdrawn her statement.
Rhona’s appalled that Faye’s blackmail could make her mother withdraw her statement but Mary is simply desperate to stop her intimate photo being sent out.
She grows increasingly distraught at the prospect as Rhona promises to fix the situation.
Utterly defeated by Faye’s blackmail, Rhona’s heartbroken to see her mother so vulnerable once again.
Things go from bad to worse for Mary when Marlon lets slip that he knows about the blackmail and she feels betrayed by Rhona.
When April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) tells Mary that she’s inspired by her grandmother’s truth-telling, she is left feeling guilty about her plan to lie to the police to escape Faye’s blackmail.
On her way into the police station to change her statement and exonerate Faye, Mary freezes, totally torn about what to do.
What will she decide?
Will Mary let Faye win?
Or will she do what’s right?
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
