Richard Madeley, 65, suffers swipe about his age from Good Morning Britain co-star

RICHARD Madeley suffered a swipe about his age from a co-star on Good Morning Britain.

The presenter, 65, became the butt of the joke after likening today’s inflation rise to the oil crisis in 1974.

Richard Madeley laughed off the age gag

Newsreader Sean Fletcher reported on inflation reaching its highest level in 30 years when Richard reacted: “Gosh, it’s almost like being back in the 1970s.

“I actually think inflation got to about 23 per cent back then, during the oil crisis in ’74.”

Sean hit back: “That’s a little bit before my time…”

Richard said “alright, alright” before Sean apologised for the cheeky dig.

His co-host Ranvir Singh said “nicely done, Sean, nicely done”, while Richard laughed off the gag.

Inflation has soared to seven percent, according to new data from the Office for National Statistics.

In another bitter blow to family finances, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.8 percentage points in March, up from 6.2 per cent in February.

Sean Fletcher said sorry for the jibe
