Richard Madeley hits back at Andi Peters in Good Morning Britain car park row

RICHARD Madeley looked uncomfortable on today’s Good Morning Britain as Andi Peters grilled him over his car park spot.

During a competition segment that saw him advertise a prize worth £128,000, Andi expressed his frustration at not having the same parking privileges as Richard.

He ranted: “I had to park a long way away from the door that we use to get in, Richard, because you’ve got prime time car parking space… but it’s not your car. Who’s car is that?”

Defensively, Richard responded: “It’s my wife’s.”

Andi asked: “It’s your wife’s car?”

Straight-faced Richard hit back: Yes. I crashed mine last week or somebody crashed it.”

Feigning shock, Andi said: “No. Revelation.”

Becoming more jovial, he continued: “I have to say, you in a Volkswagen Beetle would look amazing.”

On Monday there was another tense trade off in the studio when Richard locked horns with a guest today who said she wasn’t proud to be British.

Impassioned comedian Kate Smurthwaite launched into a tirade against Britain’s history of Empire and the slave trade, and then asked: “When were we proud to be British?”

Richard threw his hand up into the air and exclaimed: “Excuse me!”

Kate Garraway then pointed out how British democracy was a political system adopted by much of the world.

Smurthwaite then riled Richard when she said the British Government hasn’t made enough effort to seek out a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

She accused the government of “fanning the flames” of war.

Stunned, Richard said: “Are you serious. Fanning the flames?”

Richard insisted Russian President Vladimir Putin has not listened, nor been interested in, rational calls for peace.

He said: “Putin won’t sit around the table. What are you talking about?”

Garraway then brought the conversation back on track after Richard branded the guest “nonsensical”.
