But today, Richard has revealed how he was paid NOTHING for the first four seasons of Pointless.

It wasn’t until the show became a success, that he received a wage.

While the show is still going strong after 13 years on our screens, Richard said it didn’t become a “hit” until the fourth series

As a result of that, and being the creative director of the production company, Endemol Shine, that made it, Richard explained he didn’t feel it was “appropriate” to accept a salary.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror he said: “I didn’t get paid for the first four series or so of Pointless because I was the creative director of the company and I did feel like it wasn’t appropriate.’

“Until series four we didn’t have a hit and I was still doing my job. To me [hosting the show] was a fun hobby.”

Meanwhile, Back in April The Celeb Report reported how Richard, 51, had decided to walk away from the show after 13 years.

He had filmed over 1,300 episodes and 30 series.

The BBC had announced he would be replaced by guests hosts to front the quiz show alongside Alexander Armstrong.

At the time, Richard released a statement on his departure, saying: “Pointless has been a joy from start to finish, working alongside my friend Alexander Armstrong, backed by the most wonderful team, and for the best viewers in the world.

“I will miss everyone so much, but I’m thrilled that I’ll still be presenting the celebrity shows. I can’t thank everyone enough for 12 amazing years.”

Earlier in the week the show returned for a new series with Alexander presenting with actress Sally Lindsay.

BACKLASH

However, viewers were not happy with didn’t think Sally was the right person for the show.

“Sorry but #Pointless with Sally was a bit excruciating,” said one person.

“I’ve always liked Sally Lindsay and it’s never really fair to judge someone on day 1, but she doesn’t seem as comfortable on #Pointless,” said another.

A third viewer said: “I’m afraid Sally’s not a patch on @richardosman on #pointless!”

A fourth said: “Will you please stop constantly looking down at your laptop and engage more with contestants? Not liking the new look, sorry.”
