Rob, who has long insisted he was the character, continued the pretence even after it was revealed to be Aled Jones.

Tagging in the show and its broadcaster he tweeted: “Livid @ITV replaced me with @realaled and re filmed the reveal because I let slip.”

He added: “Real Phoebe from Friends Smelly Cat energy.”

When ITV tweeted a reply from its official account with a laughing emoji the star replied: “See you in court.”

They wrote back: “Bring the ‘original footage’ with you” alongside a winking emoji.

Elsewhere, Rob congratulated Aled on his performance on The Masked Singer saying: “Well done mate. Apologies for trying to steal your glory.”

But he retweeted Aled’s remarks after the show writing: “We all know who the OG traffic cone is.”

Fans who enjoyed his jokes about being on The Masked Singer have begged him to appear for real in the next series.

One wrote: “Have to say, that was a great gag – and a plea to be on it next year!”

Last month Rob told fans ITV were fuming with him after he ‘accidentally revealed’ he was The Masked Singer’s Traffic Cone.

He posted a tweet supposedly meant for his social media team writing: “Just send this out once I’ve been unmasked.”

But writing before the show aired, he tweeted: “Look itv are p***ed off with me. The tweet was an accident.

“I’ve been quiet the last few days. They still won’t pay me so I don’t care anymore. I’m traffic cone. Don’t give a s*** if it’s a spoiler.”

Of course as we now know the whole thing was a wind-up from start to finish – but some fans at the time thought it could be for real.

One tweeted: “Noooooooooooo you just ruined it for me.”
