Sean Lock emotional tributes at National Comedy Awards leave viewers in tears

CHANNEL 4 viewers were moved to tears when during an emotional tribute to late comedian, Sean Lock.

The comedian passed away in August last year aged 58 after a long battle with cancer.



Sean Lock was remembered fondly at the National Comedy Awards

His fellow comedians paid tribute to him several times during Saturday night’s National Comedy Awards.

The Stand Up To Cancer special also included a segment dedicated to remembering Sean, with some of his best mates talking about the impact he had on them.

Harry Hill lead the emotional tribute, heading up on stage to remember his friend.

A clip of Sean performing stand-up was shown before a montage of famous comedians including, Bill Bailey and Lee Mack, fondly spoke about their funny friend.

It was also later revealed in the show that Sean had won the award for outstanding male comedy entertainment performance.

His win received a standing ovation from the star-studded live audience, which left one fan “crying so much at the Sean Lock tribute at the National Comedy Awards that my left eye has welded together”.

Another fan wrote on Twitter: “Wasn’t expecting to have a good cry about Sean Lock tonight. But he always was unpredictable.”

A third added: “Sean Lock tribute on the comedy awards. May they play repeats of his shows forever! x”

And a fourth commented: “Beautiful tribute to Sean Lock tonight. Brilliant comic and a better man.”

Channel 4 also paid tribute to Sean in February when it played his final appearance on 8 out of 10 Cats do Countdown.

At the end of the episode, a message read: “In loving memory of comedy legend Sean Lock, 1963 – 2021.”

Co-star Jon Richardson was among those remembering the late comedian.

Jon Richardson tweeted: “Watching Sean’s last ep of Countdown, I can see how upset I was knowing he was ill and how much that affected my performance, while Sean himself continues to be effortlessly hilarious.

“A true comic to the end. That’s why he’s trending on Twitter and why he’s so missed.”

Sean’s friend and fellow comedian Harry Hill previously revealed the comic spent his final months in a hospice before dying at home.

Hill – a former doctor – said: “He struggled with [the illness] – he went through all the same emotions anyone in that position would experience. But he was stoical about it.

“Because he was so bright, he read up on all the latest treatments. He knew much more about that side of medicine than I ever did.”
