Sex And The City’s Kristin Davis desperately defends woke reboot And Just Like That

SEX and the City stars have desperately tried to defend the show’s reboot after it was accused by its own fans of being woefully woke.

The new series, And Just Like That…, has been criticised for its clumsy attempts to fit into the modern world — 17 years on from the last series.

But Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte, said the changes were made to update the show and relaunch it into today’s “broader world”.

Followers of the long-running romantic drama took aim when the reboot aired earlier this month — with one branding it “bloody awful woke s***e”. The show, which first aired in 1998, had previously come under fire for its lack of diversity. But when bosses tried to give the series a modern flavour, they were accused of missing the mark.

In a new interview with her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, 56, and Cynthia Nixon, 55, Kristin, 56, tried to explain the reasoning behind the show’s new woke agenda, saying: “We had this idea to come back in this way.

“We’ve come back with a new kind of broader world.”

Sarah, who plays the show’s leading character Carrie Bradshaw, added: “We’re back because we want to be. Nobody dragged us back, this is a hard-fought choice.

“We want to be here to tell this story in this way and invite all these new people.”

In the reboot — aired on Sky and Now — newspaper columnist Carrie is now working on a podcast where the audience is told she is “representing cisgender women”, alongside non-binary character Che Diaz.

Lawyer Miranda, played by Cynthia, is seen repeatedly making racial blunders while Kristin’s character Charlotte desperately tries to find black friends to invite to a dinner party. Charlotte’s eldest daughter, Lily, is also seen exploring the possibility she is transgender.

Kim Cattrall, 65, who played maneater Samantha Jones, has not returned for the reboot.
