If you are in demand, your agent can negotiate a higher salary-market value. I negotiate a lot of salaries and know of situations where women get more than men. The equality argument is a red herring. In British TV the men have tended to be the biggest crowd pullers - like Ant and Dec at the moment. However if you look back historically, women like Selina Scott and Anthea Turner will have commanded big salaries. If you're box office you get more money. In American TV ladies often get more than men. I feel uncomfortable about salaries being published just because the BBC is a public service broadcaster. I certainly believe there should be more transparency. But the BBC needs to be able to attract quality broadcasters and offer competitive rates. GBP 150,000 isn't a huge amount, but it's the starting point of the higher tax band.
Top showbiz agent Jonathan Shalit told GB News that Schofield could be back on screens

But Jonathan Shalit, chairman of showbiz agency InterTalent, whose clients include the show’s former host Eamonn Holmes, told GB News Phillip could be back on screens.

He said: “The most important thing is Phillip hasn’t broken the law.

“Today is a very dark day and the last few weeks have been very tough for him.”

Referencing another ITV scandal in 2019, when The Jeremy Kyle Show was cancelled following the suicide of a recent guest, he added: “I think the one thing [Phillip] should hold on to is that time heals.

“Look at Jeremy Kyle, when that terrible thing happened on his show.

“He was out for a while and now he’s working.

“People do come back.”

He also said there is no reason Holly Willoughby’s career should be affected.

Shalit explained: “She’s made absolutely clear she didn’t know and there’s no way to show she didn’t know so therefore, you’re innocent until proven guilty.

“She’s one of Britain’s best broadcasters.

“ I don’t represent her so I can say that objectively.”

“She’s very experienced and she will come back and continue as long as she wants.”
