The Scottish star, 56, asked the controversial question on his account on September 16.

Douglas wrote: “Do you think the Queue would be so long if people knew that the Queen isn’t in that coffin?

“Or do they know and it’s just symbolic?”

At the time, the TV star was hit with a barrage of angry comments, as royalists shunned his question.

Many branded his tweet “offensive”, and the replied flooded in.

One wrote: “Douglas, please stop spreading lies and conspiracy theories like this. You’re better than this.”

Another said: “A lot of people are very upset our Queen has died. Why be unkind?”

As another Twitter user branded Douglas “nasty,” asking: “Why do people like you decide to tweet vile remarks, particularly at a time when thousands of people are queuing for hours to pay their respect to the Queen?

“Why undermine what they are doing?”

It didn’t take long for the actor to defend what he’d said, as he quickly responded: “t’s not nasty or vile, and I’m not undermining anyone.

“I simply asked a question. Jesus. Enjoy your retirement.”

Boasting just shy of 100K followers on the platform, Doug has since spoken out about the “online abuse” he’s since received.

On September 24, he wrote: “I’ve taken quite an extraordinary amount of abuse over the last couple of weeks and I haven’t b*****d or whined about any of it.
