The BBC One soap introduced George as Elaine Peacock’s new life partner as he settles into The Queen Vic with his two adult daughters, Anna and Gina, in tow.

Elaine (portrayed by Harriet Thorpe) is all loved-up as George (Colin Salmon) makes himself at home in Albert Square.

But Elaine’s daughter Linda (Kellie Bright) struggles with the Knight family invasion.

Few clues about George’s life before Walford have been dropped but next week, Elaine confides in Linda about Gina and Anna’s mother.

According to her, the unknown woman walked out on George and the family nine years prior to their arrival in the Square and she never looked back.

Later on, Linda’s nose is put out of joint when Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) arranges a meeting with George to discuss a new pub, pie and fight collaboration between The Vic and The Boxing Den.

But Linda is far more interested in what George could be keeping from her mother as she overhears him on the phone and realises he’s not yet sold his Marbella bar.

This is bad news for the Vic as it means he has no money to support the pub’s accounts.

As Linda furiously orders him and the girls out, George stuns Elaine and the rest of The Vic punters by proposing.

Could George have more sinister motives to propose to Elaine?

Soap fans have theorised that the new character may have a shock connection with former Walford villainess Cindy Beale.

Cindy was last heard from in 1998 after she was arrested for her attempted hit on Ian.

At the time of her arrest, she was pregnant with her former boyfriend Nick Holland’s child.

Once he realised she was guilty of attempted murder, Nick left her in prison without any money for a lawyer.

On November 5, 1998, Ian received the news that Cindy had supposedly died in childbirth but her daughter, also named Cindy in her mother’s honour, had survived.

What are the Knights hiding?

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
