SIMON Cowell is set to cash in £10million with an America’s Got Talent residency in Las Vegas, according to reports.
The 61-year-old is said to have signed a lucrative deal with the city’s Luxor Hotel which will see the show’s winner and other performers take to the stage twice a week.
If it proves a hit with paying punters the partnership could run for many years and see performers from the British version of the show appear too.
A source told the Mirror: “We open America’s Got Talent in Vegas at the Luxor this year. And Vegas and Got Talent is where they want to end up. We had a fantastic conversation with MGM who own the Luxor. And we agreed to do it, so it happens this year.”
Another insider based in the city added: “This is one of his smartest business moves ever. He has been working on this deal for three years, but Covid impacted the 2020 plan.
“Now, with investors and MGM’s support, there is a huge feeling this will be one of the big shows that will really bring Vegas back bigger and better.”
We recently revealed Simon is determined to continue his streak of telly talent shows by creating a new one to rival X Factor and BGT’s home channel ITV.
Insiders say that he is keen to work with Netflix which could lead to his first streaming programme.
A source said: “Simon never rests on his laurels. He is constantly thinking creatively of new ideas and shows, innovating and evolving all the time.
“It is one of the secrets of his huge success over the years.
“He has told friends that he is sick of competitors trying to out-do the brand, so decided he would do it himself.
“He’s vowed that his next show will be bigger and better than BGT.
“He’s weighing up his options and considering if he would put it on a terrestrial channel or take it to a streaming site. Simon has a big vision and the likes of Netflix have hundreds of millions in their coffers to help make it a reality.
“Considering he’s responsible for some of the century’s most successful entertainment formats, streaming executives should be desperate to bring that Cowell magic to their platform.”
Simon dreamt up his new passion project after the announcement in January that Britain’s Got Talent would be postponed until 2022 due to Covid safety fears.
The X Factor is also scheduled to make a comeback next year, having been off air since 2019.
Last month, Simon made his long-awaited return to work by filming America’s Got Talent.
It followed months away after he broke his back in an electric bike accident at his Malibu home in August.
