Sky to Shut Down Major Channel in Huge Shake Up

Sky Mix to Replace Pick TV

Sky, the popular broadcaster, has announced that it will be shutting down one of its major digital channels, Pick TV, after 17 years. However, this closure comes as part of a larger shake up as the channel will be replaced by a brand new offering called Sky Mix. The transition is set to happen on October 18th, with the launch of the new on-screen identity.

New Channel to Feature Exclusive Sky Originals

Sky Mix is expected to bring viewers an exciting lineup of Sky originals that were previously only available on Sky and NOW platforms. This means that fans of shows like Rob & Romesh Vs, True Detective, and A Discovery of Witches will now have free access to earlier series. Additionally, the channel will showcase a selection of Sky Original films from previous years, providing a fresh experience for viewers.

A Themed Schedule for Weeknights

One of the unique features of Sky Mix will be its themed weeknight schedule. Each day will be dedicated to a specific genre, such as drama, comedy, and crime. This will allow viewers to easily find their favorite type of content and ensure an enjoyable viewing experience.

Pick TV's Evolution

Pick TV, originally known as Sky Three, first launched in 2005. Over the years, it underwent various rebrands before eventually becoming Pick in 2011. Now, after 17 years on air, the channel will bid farewell to its viewers as Sky Mix takes its place.

Managing Director's Statement

Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content for Sky UK and Ireland, expressed excitement about the upcoming shake up, stating, "Sky Mix is the perfect free-to-air home for us to showcase some of our favorite Sky shows that have already been a hit with our customers on Sky and NOW platforms." Bennett goes on to mention specific shows and films that will be featured on the new channel, promising a great viewing experience for audiences.

A History of Change

This is not the first time that Sky has made significant changes to its channel lineup. Two years ago, the broadcaster shut down the iconic Sky One channel, which had been on the air for nearly 40 years. It was replaced by Sky Showcase, a channel that offers a curated selection of the best TV shows from across Sky's entertainment brands.
