First Look Photos Released
Sofia Vergara, best known for her role in Modern Family, is set to take on a completely different persona in the upcoming Netflix series Griselda. The first look photos released by Netflix show the actress completely unrecognisable as she portrays real-life drug kingpin Griselda Blanco.
A Far Cry from Modern Family
Sofia, 50, is seen in the photos looking worlds away from her usual glamorous self. Known for her role as the kind-hearted Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family, Sofia's character in Griselda is a far cry from her sitcom persona.
Working Behind the Scenes
Not only is Sofia taking on a leading role in the series, but she is also involved behind the scenes. Teaming up with Narcos producer Eric Newman, Sofia is also serving as an executive producer for the new drama.
The Godmother of Cocaine
Griselda tells the true story of Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, who rose through the ranks of Miami's criminal underworld in the 1970s and '80s. She is now remembered as the godmother of cocaine. The limited series, consisting of six episodes, is set to premiere on Netflix in January 2024.
Capturing Griselda's Essence
Director and Executive Producer Andrés Baiz praised Sofia for capturing the essence of Griselda Blanco in her performance. He revealed that Sofia portrays the duality of the character and her evolution as she uses her oppression as a means of terror. Co-Creator and Executive Producer Eric Newman also praised Sofia for encompassing the darkness of the role, which is a departure from her beloved comedic image.
A Glimpse into the Transformation
The first look pictures reveal Sofia's stunning transformation into Griselda Blanco. She sports shoulder-length blonde hair styled in curls and a natural makeup look. Despite the character's ruthless nature, Sofia still exudes chicness in the images.
Coming Soon on Netflix
Griselda will have a similar vibe to the popular crime drama Narcos. While the two series are not related, fans of Narcos are expected to enjoy this upcoming limited series. Griselda is set to premiere on Netflix in January 2024.
