The emotional journey of former TOWIE star James 'Arg' Argent unfolds in the upcoming season of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. In a new trailer for the Channel 4 show, Argent is seen breaking down in floods of tears as he confronts his past demons during a grueling interview with the show's chief instructors.
A difficult journey
The show, set to premiere on September 26, features seven 60-minute episodes and stars chief instructor Mark "Billy" Billingham and his directing staff Jason "Foxy" Fox, Rudy Reyes, and Chris Oliver. Last year, The Celeb Report revealed that Arg had joined the show's largest-ever lineup, including Melinda Messenger, Gareth Gates, and Gareth Thomas. And based on the first look at the new series, it seems that the reality star, who has battled drug addiction and struggled with his weight, was put through the ringer.
Breaking point
In scenes that are difficult to watch, the 34-year-old star is seen crying uncontrollably, showcasing the intense emotions that the show provokes. "It's the type of show that pushes you to breaking point and it's something I'll never forget. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity," James said of his decision to sign up for the show. In an Instagram post, he added, "I’m honoured to reveal that I have taken part in this year's #SASWhoDaresWins. It was honestly one of the hardest physical and mental challenges of my life."
A triumph over addiction and weight struggles
The Celebrity SAS star, who now weighs a healthy 14st after previously weighing 27st, has been focusing on his recovery from a seven-year cocaine addiction. Reflecting on his journey, Arg said, "My lowest point was just when I hit rock bottom, and I was in an awful place... there've been times, it was well documented, that I'd end up in an ambulance and be taken to the hospital and things like that. But I'm a long way away from that now."
A reminder of the past
Arg emphasizes the importance of remembering the severity of his past struggles in order to stay on the right path. "Your brain can say to you like, 'Oh, was it really that bad?' Or, 'It will be different this time, you can control it this time.' I have to be reminded, it's important for me to be reminded about how bad things were," he shared.
Returning to screens
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which is a spin-off of the original SAS: Who Dares Wins series, features celebrities being put through intense military training exercises to test their physical and mental strength. The show returns to Channel 4 on September 26 at 9:30 pm.
