Springwatch Star Opens Up About Incurable Disease

'Very Difficult' Battle with Ménière's Disease

Springwatch presenter Chris Packham, 63, bravely shared the challenges of living with his incurable Ménière's disease. He revealed the struggles he faces since receiving the diagnosis during a segment on hearing loss on BBC's The One Show.

The Impact of Ménière's on Daily Life

Ménière's is a rare and incurable condition affecting the inner ear, leading to balance and hearing issues such as tinnitus, vertigo, and hearing loss. Packham emphasized the importance of hearing aids in enabling him to fully experience and appreciate nature, despite the obstacles posed by the disease.

A Brush with Danger

In a separate revelation, Packham recounted a frightening encounter with a venomous water shrew. Despite the bite, which left his co-star Michaela Strachan surprised, Packham assured that the venom had no harmful effects on humans, allowing him to brush off the incident without any lasting damage.
