STACEY Dooley left fans ‘heartbroken’ with harrowing coronavirus scenes in her Back on the Psych Ward documentary.
The 34-year-old presenter returned to Springfield Hospital in her latest BBC Two documentary, having first filmed there last year.
Stacey wanted to investigate the impact the coronavirus pandemic had had on people with mental health conditions, and met a number of patients and staff who shared their stories.
These included Coral, who had been brought in after attempting to take her own life following an ongoing battle with anxiety and depression, which she attempts to self-medicate by drinking alcohol.
Another was Ali, 21, who has severe obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
Their stories left viewers heartbroken, and full of praise for Stacey for highlighting such an important issue during such unprecedented times.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Just so sad watching #staceydooley BBC2 #backonthepsychward all those young people who can’t see their own potential.
“Mental health is always underfunded, they deserve much better.”
Another tweeted: “What a sobering and insightful watch about the impact of Covid-19 on young people and severe mental illness.
“Mental health services are so underfunded and need investing in, they deserve better #backonthepsychward”.
A third added: “#Backonthepsychward Really sad insight into severe mental health and the impact of Covid and lockdowns, especially on young people.”
