A host of celebrities present a glittering night featuring famous faces from the world of sport, film, music and comedy.
Here’s who you can expect to see on your screens TONIGHT (October 15)…
Who is hosting the show?
Davina McCall
Davina McCall is a 53-year-old English television presenter.
Known for hosting the reality show Big Brother during its run on Channel 4 between 2000 and 2010.
She lost her sister in 2012 from cancer.
Davina explains why taking part in the Stand Up To Cancer is important to her, she says: “My sister was given a terminal diagnosis in hospital and gave herself a hard time for not doing something about it.”
“There’s nothing like the look on someone’s face when they realise there’s no treatment. And the idea you’d ever blame yourself is too much to handle.”
“So we need to help people to find ways of detecting changes in their bodies, but never shaming anybody, ever, ever, ever, and least of all shaming yourself, ever, if you get sick. It’s not your fault.” she explained.
“Every penny raised goes to Cancer Research UK. They really are world leaders in cancer research and treatments. They are doing the most amazing work.”
Alan Carr
Alan Carr is a 45-year-old English comedian, broadcaster and writer.
Known for his big breakthrough in 2001, winning the City Life Best Newcomer of the Year and the BBC New Comedy Awards.
Speaking about why the Stand Up To Cancer movement is important to him, he explains: “I lost my uncle two weeks ago to lung cancer. This year is going to have a bit more of a purpose for me. As you get older, more and more people seem to be battling it, and it becomes more and more relevant.”
Adam Hills
Adam Hill is a 51-year-old Australian comedian and radio and television presenter.
While he was in Australia he hosted the music quiz show Spicks and Specks from 2005–11 and again from 2021, and the talk show Adam Hills Tonight from 2011-13.
Then when he moved to the UK, he has hosted the talk show The Last Leg since 2012.
Speaking about why Stand Up To Cancer is important to him, he says: “My dad died of cancer in 2012, just as The Last Leg started to hit over here,
“There was an offer of it becoming a regular series, and me having a career here. And so one of the last things he said to me was “Good luck in London.” That was literally the last full sentence he said to me. So, in a way, I’m doing it for him.”
Maya Jama
Maya Jama is a 27-year-old English television and radio presenter.
She co-presented BBC One‘s Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer alongside Peter Crouch and Alex Horne.
She is also the presenter of the BBC Three competition Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star from the third series onwards.
Speaking about why Stand Up To Cancer is important to her, she reveals: “I’ve had family members that have suffered from cancer. My grandma survived but my great uncle passed away from it.”
This is Maya’s second time hosting the annual charity show.
Joe Lycett
Joe Lycett is a 33-year-old British comedian and television presenter.
He has appeared on TV shows including Live at the Apollo, Taskmaster, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats and QI.
His role throughout the show will be totting up the totaliser throughout the night, explaining how the money raised will be spent on life-saving cancer research .
There will also be celebrity appearances from Usain Bolt, Olivia Colman, Liam Payne, James Blunt, The Jonas Brothers, Rosie Jones, The Derry Girls, Liam Gallagher, Jack Black and Stephen Mangan.
Stand Up to Cancer will air on Channel 4 on Friday, October 15 starting at 7.30pm.
The show will continue until 1.55am on Saturday, October 16.
