STAR Wars has hit back at ‘racist bullies’ after the host of new show The High Republic was bombarded with abusive tweets.
The upcoming web series about Star Wars: The High Republic is a new subseries of the Star Wars franchise.
Krystina Arielle was recently revealed as the host, however, she has since been subjected to racist abuse online.
The vitriol began after old tweets condemning systematic racism – which she posted in support of the Black Lives Matter protests last year – resurfaced.
On Saturday, Krystina shared screenshots of some of the abuse on Twitter and wrote: “The last 24 hours have been … not the greatest.”
The star was quickly supported by Star Wars on its official Twitter account, writing in a tweet: “Our Star Wars community is one of hope and inclusivity.
“We do not stand for bullying and racism. We support, @KrystinaArielle.”
The High Republic Show is set during the sub-era of the Age of Republic, 800 years after the fall of the Old Republic and 200 years before the events of the Skywalker saga.
Krystina isn’t the only person in the Star Wars universe who has been on the receiving end of racist abuse.
John Boyega, who played Finn in the most recent trilogy of Star Wars films, has spoken about the vile abuse he received after he was cast in The Force Awakens.
He told British GQ in September last year: “Nobody else had the uproar and death threats sent to their Instagram DMs and social media, saying, ‘Black this and black that and you shouldn’t be a Stormtrooper.
“Nobody else had that experience. But yet people are surprised that I’m this way. That’s my frustration.”
