Steph McGovern announces new career path after Channel 4 cancels talk show

Steph McGovern bids farewell to TV

Steph McGovern has revealed a major career shift following the cancellation of her talk show on Channel 4. The 42-year-old presenter, known for hosting BBC Breakfast and Pocket Money Pitch, made the announcement after her final episode of Packed Lunch in December.

Turning the page with a novel

Instead of facing the camera, Steph has taken a new direction by delving into writing. She shared that she has penned a novel titled "Deadline," a project she has been nurturing since her early days in morning television. The book, set in a world of power, corruption, and lies, will be unveiled at Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, North Yorkshire next year.

Channel 4's surprising decision

The decision to cancel Steph's Packed Lunch came as a shock to many, with Channel 4 aiming to compete with streaming giants like Netflix and Apple TV. The move was met with criticism, as the show had been gaining popularity and boasted a loyal fanbase.

From lockdown launch to fan favorite

Steph's Packed Lunch, which hit the screens in 2020, initially started as a home-based production during lockdown. The show quickly garnered a strong following and concluded its run in December at a regional launch event in Leeds Dock.
