Stephen Mulhern’s game show ‘axed’ by ITV after ‘poor viewing figures’

STEPHEN Mulhern’s Rolling In It has reportedly faced the chop after not enough people tuned in to watch it.

Hosted by Stephen the show which debuted in 2020, saw celebs partner up with contestants to win lots of cash.

But not enough viewers watched Rolling In It so ITV bosses decided to can it, according to a report in the Daily Star.

The game of chance saw three contestants play alongside some of their favourite celebrities including Mark Wright, Gemma Collins, and Joel Dommett.

It has three teams made up of the player and their celebrity partner who have to roll a coin down a moving conveyor belt towards slots which are labelled with large cash sums to win.

The only thing in their way are ‘bankrupt’ slots which cause the player to lose everything.

As the game progresses, there’s more and more money on the line – but higher penalties in the game of luck and fierce competition.

The roll of one final coin could determine whether the contestant loses everything or goes home ‘Rolling In It.’

Despite this show getting the axe, Stephen is not short of work.

In January, The Celeb Report revealed ITV handed him TV Winners, where contestants get grilled on their knowledge of the small screen.

He is also already hosting Catchphrase, In For A Penny and, of course, pops up on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

A TV insider said: “Stephen is really well respected at ITV and has very much become one of the faces of their light entertainment offering.

“He’s been in the business for almost 25 years and knows so many of the stars he’s climbed up the ranks alongside.

“More importantly, he is viewed as a safe pair of hands when it comes to fronting shows.

“And with the gameshow format, which requires personality as well as skills to steer a programme, he really seems to have found his niche.

“In particular, bosses were impressed by him presenting The Big Soap Quiz on ITV, which made them realise how good he’d be in a similar role, full-time.”

Stephen got his big break in children’s TV in 1998 and has since appeared on SMTV Live, Britain’s Got More Talent, This Morning and Sunday Night At The Palladium.

He made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Takeaway this week after being forced off air by doctors.

The much-loved star – who hasn’t been on screen for more than a month now – was back for one of the show’s best features, Ant Vs Dec.

The Catchphrase and In For A Penny host, 44, revealed earlier this month that he had been ruled out of the show by medics.

He tweeted on 12 March: “I’ve had some time off and been resting up on doctors orders. I’m on the mend, I’m happy to say, and looking forward to getting back to work soon.

“In the meantime… I’ll put my feet up and watch Saturday Night Takeaway tonight with the rest of you lot. Please don’t miss me too much!”

The Celeb Report has reached out to ITV for comment.
