Strictly Come Dancing curse is ‘very real’ because of chemistry says former star amid steamy series

FORMER Strictly Come Dancing contestant Debbie McGee has spoken out about the show’s notorious ‘curse‘

Wowing audiences with her fab dance moves and high kicks, Debbie, 62, who partnered with pro Giovanni Pernice, is not surprised that contestants and their partners end up having affairs.

Speaking to Closer Magazine, Debbie said: “The Strictly curse does seem to be a thing.

“People have affairs in all walks of life and it’s usually with the person that they’re spending the most amount of time with.

“And because Strictly is televised and watched by so many, the ‘curse’ has become a really big deal.”

Each week the dancing duos on the show spend hours and hours together honing their moves and trying on costumes.

Known as a famous magician’s assistant and wife to late husband Paul Daniels, Debbie and Giovanni danced up a storm on the show in 2017.

Strictly Come Dancing is known for its steamy intimate moments, and with Giovanni breaking up with his partner Maura Higgins days before last weekend’s show, audience members are starting to talk.

Debbie went on to say: “Dancing can be very emotional and if there’s a lot of chemistry between you and your dance partner, then I can see how it happens.”

This year’s contestant Olympian Adam Peaty and partner Katja Jones have made audience members hearts race with their raunchy Argentine tango.

One fan of the show posted on Twitter: “Place your bets, who’s going to accidentally kiss on screen first – Adam and Katja or John and Johannes #strictly.”

Bake Off winner John Whaite and professional dance partner Johannes Radebe have been impressing the judges and audience as the first male same-sex dance couple.

Presenter AJ Odudu and Kai Widdringtons also did the tango, and their onstage passion has not gone unnoticed as their near kisses and tension are palpable through the screen.

AJ laughed off the encounter on the show and said she had been munching “smelly crisps” before the routine.

Adam and Katja, John and Johannes, Aj and Kai and Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice still have stiff competition ahead of them as several other couples still remain on the BBC show.

Joining them in hopes of taking home the trophy are Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden, Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu, Sara Davies and Aljaž Škorjanec, Dan Walker and Nadiya Bychkova, Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin and Judi Love and Graziano Di Prima.
